Debts of the Dead originated as a short film, made as a passion project by a group of SAE students. The film was shot in 2024 and premiered at WA Made, where it was nominated for both 'Best Film' and 'Best Screenplay' in the student category.
We initially set out to make the short for the purpose of growing our skills, but after the premiere we were humbled by the reception it received and the audience's enthusiasm in our idea and the plight of our main character, Adam.
Off the back of this enthusiasm, we set out to take on our biggest challenge yet, turning Debts of the Dead into a feature film.
And after a year of careful development and pre-production, here we are, ready and excited to bring a film about the dead to life!
In a dystopian near-future where the dead are resurrected to work off their outstanding debts, a fed-up zombie named Adam fights to unionise with his undead coworkers.
Shooting will take place in the second half of 2026, all located within the Perth metropolitan area. We’re targeting a completion date of mid 2027, followed by a festival run.
It will be a low budget film, made possible by crew investment and crowdfunding. Details about donations will be available when the time comes.
Here's our Pitch Deck, where you can get some more information about the film!
